IB DP Student Counselling
The Role of the IB Student Counsellor
The primary role of the IB Student Counsellor is to help students successfully complete their IB education while achieving the best possible outcome and results from their education at Nørre Gymnasium. In practical terms, this means helping Nørre Gymnasium’s IB students with a variety of study related issues. The Student Counsellor gives group and individual counselling on relevant academic and personal, social and economic conditions: this includes assisting students who have turned 18 with their SU (Statens Uddannelsesstøtte) applications.
Setting up an Individual Consultation
I am available for individual consultations twice a week. Students are advised to contact me in advance in order for me to book a consultation time in Lectio. Students should inform the relevant teacher in advance if they need to leave a class in order to consult with the student counsellor.
Office Hours August-May:
If you are already a student at Nørre Gymnasium, please see my office hours in Lectio. If you are not already a student at Nørre Gymnasium, please initially contact me by writing me an e-mail with your query and a contact phone number. I will strive to reply and/or call you within 72 hours.
Parents
Parents are welcome to contact me if they have queries or concerns about study related issues. The best way to contact me is via e-mail: lj@norreg.dk. Please note that the counsellor position is a part time position (approximately 20% of a full-time position, i.e. the equivalent of one day a week). I aim to answer all queries within 48 hours but sometimes this isn’t possible due to other commitments.
University Guidance
At Nørre Gymnasium we have two Higher Education Advisors who are available to help students with their university applications. Students applying to Danish universities should contact Inge Duus Hjortlund (idhj@studievalg.dk). Students applying to universities abroad should contact me (lj@norreg.dk). You can also go to the page University Guidance on our own website for more information (see the menu to the right).
Collaboration
As counsellor, I collaborate with Danish Youth Guidance Centres and their guidance counsellors. These centres have been set up by the Danish Government to help all young people make qualified educational choices. If an IB student at Nørre Gymnasium wishes to change to another education, a UU counsellor will be contacted in order to help the student move forward.
E-Guidance
eGuidance was launched in January 2011 and provides individual and personal guidance to all citizens via various virtual communication channels: chat, telephone, SMS, e-mail and Facebook. eGuidance is for everyone who wants information about education and employment. eGuidance is especially targeted resourceful young persons and their parents to give them easy access to independent information and guidance and hereby motivate the young people to continue the search and clarification process on their own. https://www.ug.dk/evejledning
