Nørres new tree

This year, Nørre G’s Climate Day fell on September 19, and it has become a tradition at the school that students plant a tree to mark the occasion. Besides the fact that planting trees is an effective way to absorb CO₂ from the air, the trees are carefully selected for their natural and cultural-historical value. This year is no exception, as we have chosen to plant a copper beech, a special variant of the common beech, easily recognizable by its beautiful, deep-red leaves.

Since the tree nursery cannot dig up the tree until the growing season has ended, we had to wait some time before planting it on the school grounds. It was therefore decided to fill the waiting period with a competition in which the students were asked to explain why the copper beech’s leaves have their characteristic color, drawing on physics, chemistry, and biology. Among the submissions, the best was written by Ibrahim from class 2t, who thus won two cinema tickets.
