Barcelona
2021

Once again, Nørre Gymnasium’s IB students have had a wonderful trip to Barcelona. This year, the class visited the city between August 29th and September 4th, 2021. This was a different time than we have travelled in the past, and it was our 3i students who went this year, because they had had their study trip cancelled due to Corona the year before. Still, these minor differences in no way interfered with the success of this trip, which has become one of the crowning elements of our IB program.

This year, we stayed at the Loft Hostel, which was located in the middle of Barcelona’s Eixample District. The hostel was ideally located just down the street from Antoni Gaudi’s La Pedrera and a fifteen-minute walk from La Sagrada Familia.

Comprised of six nights and seven days, the trip’s itinerary was as follows:

Monday was Gaudi Day, and luckily the famous attractions were open for guests again. Due to covid restrictions the students were split into three different groups, but we all got to visit La Sagrada Familia and Park Güell some of Gaudi’s most famous structures.

On Tuesday, we strapped on our walking shoes and went on a tour through Barcelona’s Barri Gòtic. We toured La Rambla and Barcelona’s medieval center and finished the day at the Picasso Museum.

Wednesday was dedicated to the Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali. After a long bus ride, we arrived in Figueres and could visit the Dali Theater Museum, only after having our temperature taken. We then went back on the bus heading to Empuries Ruins, an old Roman city. The Barcelona weather in August is wonderful, and we were able to cool down at the beach right next to the old ruins.

Thursday we were free to join one of the activities lead the teachers. Andrew took his students on a Civil War tour. Thomas arranged a trip to an art Museum, and Mette and Anne went to the Barcelona Science Museum.

On our last full day, Friday, we went to Monserrat. First, we visited the Monastery and afterwards we did a mountain walk. Not everyone made it to the top, but we all enjoyed the beautiful view of the Spanish mountains. Friday night, we had a final dinner with all the students and teachers. A perfect way to conclude our very successful study trip.

Once again, the 3i cohort would like to thank the teachers Anne Wilson, Mette Morrell and Thomas Bargfelt for making this trip possible. And a special thank you to Andrew Miller. We acknowledge the tremendous work and dedication that the teachers and administration put into making this trip a possibility. We are truly grateful!
