Solar Cell Facility at Nørre G
For several years, Nørre Gymnasium have wanted to establish a solar cell facility, and now it is happening. During March, the panels for the 709 square metre sized facility were delivered and mounted on the flat roof of the school’s Assembly Hall. The facility is part of a project concerning green entrepreneurship focusing, among other things, on building action competence by employing solar cell data in education. The project is recently granted and is financed by the Danish Ministry of Education. The two 2nd year classes connected to the project will get the opportunity to visit the Aleo Solar factory when they go on their study trip to Berlin in the spring of 2023.
About the facility
The facility is made up by 402 Aleo Solarpowerful project modules, which are produced in Prenzlau just outside Berlin. The cost is around DKK 1.2 million with an effect of 133 kilowatt-peak (kWp). According to calculations, Nørre G’s solar cell facility will produce112,000 kWh per year which will cover a 5th of the school’s electricity consumption resulting in yearly electricity cost savings of DKK 231,800. The payback time is estimated at five years but will probably be shorter due to increasing electricity prices.
We are now waiting for the inverters from SMA Solar which convert the solar panels’ production of direct current into alternating current. When these are installed, we can start using the solar cell facility.
